Little Heroes

Supporting children to connect and develop into their truest selves!

Bouncing off the walls? An intimate relationship with the word no? Feel like you’re constantly negotiating with the Batman’s arch-nemesis the Joker?

Little Heroes Counselling is about providing the space and tools for children and adolescents to develop and grow into confident and self-advocating individuals. Every hero goes through their own journey and every personal narrative has an incredible influence on self-perception and belief.

With years of experience with a diverse range of people - from those transitioning from prison settings to 4 year olds, teenagers and their families in "crisis”. Brendan is a neurodivergent paediatric counsellor (Masters of Counselling, Bachelor of Psychology) with a diverse range of experience and cliental.

Incorporating sensory needs and play therapies with narrative, dialectic and cognitive therapies in an integrated and evidence-based approach.

Available for both in person and telehealth sessions - both with children or directly with parent-only support.

  • It is a holistic approach – meaning it takes into account the grand picture of all systems and environments in place to assist with our current challenges. This might mean mental health support, assisting with identity, relationships or supporting with executive tasks (organisation, planning, attention).

  • On the mental health spectrum all 3 involve learning similar approaches and therapies – the differences are in the amount of medical involvement. Only a psychiatrist/paediatrician can provide medication, only a psychiatrist/paediatrician or psychologist can give a diagnosis – but all are trained in providing client-focused therapy.

  • • Emotional identification and regulation

    • Social skills and positive relationships

    • Cognitive flexibility and abstract thinking

    • Confidence and Self-belief

    • Processing trauma

    • Life transitions

    • Attention and impulsivity

    • Executive function

  • I have experience with quite a wide range of presentations, the following being personal interests and specialities:

    • ADHD

    • Autism

    • Oppositional/Defiant presentations (eg. ODD/PDA)

    • Anxiety

    • Developmental Delays

    • Trauma

    • Parenting

    • Non-verbal and significant speech delays

    • Navigating transitions and adolescence

  • • NDIS Improved Daily Living funds under the Capacity Building can be used for counselling therapies – you may wish to make sure that your individual plan does not specify that any mental health therapies must specifically be a psychologist.

    • Currently medicare does not cover counselling therapies, which the industry is advocating for.

    • Each private health fund has their own rules on claiming counselling therapies.
